Morning routines!

Morning routines, we all have them, we probably all hate them! Some take longer, some just a few minutes but regardless we all have to do them! The day of a disabled person is much more involved then someone who is not disabled knows. My day starts at 4:45, my alarm goes off and the starting gun goes off. Its a transfer up and out of bed, then I have to catheterize myself, (Take a pee), then its another transfer into the shower, not to take a shower but to start the bowel routine( I won't go into specifics!) :-) then 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour its finally time to take a shower. Usually 15 to 20 minutes, (I like my showers)! After that its another transfer out of the shower into my chair. Blow dry my hair, yes I blowdry everyday, shave, trim the goatee, brush teeth, put on deodorant, fold catheters for the day, take medicine, then time to get dressed. Luckily i can get dressed in my chair but others it is another transfer back into the bed to get dressed. Then another transfer back into the chair. Then if time permits grab some breakfast and finally out the door 3 hours and 15 minutes later! But God forbid there is snow or ice on the vehicle, then due to it not fitting into the garage, its de-icing the windows, clearing the snow, and warming up the vehicle. Another transfer into the truck, (seven transfers already in the morning!), then finally its off to work to have the boss ask you why you were late??? :-) Fortunately working for the Utah Department of Rehabilitation my boss understands the things a disabled person has to get through to get ready for the day! Thanks Kent for being the way you are!! But we all have things to do in the morning whether your disabled or not, it becomes routine. we have to adjust our days, nights, and mornings around our routines. Hopefully this helps someone that is feeling bad about their mornings and what they have to go through because there's others that it even takes longer. But the point is that you are getting up, getting out, going to work, or just going out into the community. Your participating in life and living! So keep it up and screw how long it takes you in the morning cause you have the rest of the day to enjoy!!
