About Ken

Ken was injured in a car accident in 1990. He was a passenger in the vehicle and both him and the driver had been drinking. He now realizes the consequences of his actions in getting into a car with someone who had too much to drink. Ken understands personally the struggles of those in wheelchairs due to life-changing accidents, illnesses or debilitating diseases.

After having owned and operated his own medical supply company in Virginia for eight years Ken moved to Utah and began work as a rehabilitation specialist. Since 1992 Ken received special training in seating and positioning of severely involved individuals, as well as, the sizing and fitting disabled individuals in manual, power and high-end power wheelchairs. As the Assistive Technology Coordinator for an independent living center, Ken was responsible for evaluating additional equipment such as wheelchair lifts, ramps, porch and stair lifts.

In August 2002 Ken began working as an Assistive Technology Specialist for the Utah Center for Assistive Technology (UCAT). Ken now works regularly with independent living centers, vocational rehabilitation, and the Veterans Administration. Ken specializes in writing reports that directly impact those seeking mobility as he evaluates and makes recommendations for the purchase of assistive technology to help clients gain independence or return to work.

Sitting on several accessibility community boards over the past 20 years, Ken has earned the respect of civic leaders and medical specialists. From serving as a member of the Mayor's Committee in Virginia Beach to the Utah Transit Authority Disability Advisory Board, to the Governor's Committee for employment for the disabled to helping found the Citizens for Re-Utilization of Assistive Technology Equipment (CREATE), Ken has been on the inside lane to legislation and improvements in technology that directly affect and impact the industry of mobility.

Ken's background and education in drafting, manufacturing courses on wheelchair fitting, repair and vehicle modification for lifts and hand controls, installation of lifts and ramps, as well as his expertice and understanding of ADA requirements make him a trusted resource. His personal expertise, tragic life-changing accident and powerful determination to succeed make him a trusted example to those seeking motivation and inspiration.

Ken now speaks to groups and individuals about his motivation and how he was able to overcome tragedy. His inspirational story will lift your spirits and make you think about where you are in your life now. He has a strong message about zero tolerance for those that are the designated drivers and accountability for their passengers.

Ken lives by four "C's"1. Choice
2. Change
3. Chance
4. Challenge

Choice - choose a lane - determine your path
Change - have the courage to make change
Chance - be willing to take a chance and try something you've never tried before.
And finally Challenge - challenge yourself to bigger and better things til you succeed!

Remember - Life is like a roller coaster, it has it ups and its downs, and hair raising curves, But man what a ride it is
